Melchizedek’s Feast

Last Updated on October 18, 2022 by GMC

Lord Jesus Christ, who are you?

A Son forever, a priest forever
In the order of Melchizedek.

Who are you, Melchizedek?

King of righteousness
King of peace
Priest of God Most High

I offered a feast of bread and wine,
Blessing Abram as a favor and sign.
The father of nations paid tribute to me,
A tenth of his goods he gave generously.

A mysterious king from a foreign land
Without father, mother, or lineal strand.
Without beginning or end, like the Son of God,
A priest forever, supplanting Aaron’s rod.

Who are you, Lord?

A Son forever, a priest forever
In the order of Melchizedek.

Said the Lord to my Lord, Son of God Most High,
Priest and king forever, my right hand occupy.
Before the daystar shone or time began,
In my womb I begot you before Abraham.

Before Abraham was, I Am Who I Am.
In my flesh I became for you a meek Lamb.
I gave to my Father and your Father my life
To make you forever my Bride, the Lamb’s wife.

A perfect oblation of love was received
In the Holy of Holies where the Son is conceived.
Living bread and wine of the eternal high priest
Beckons Abraham to Melchizedek’s feast.

Jesus and Melchizedek are superimposed upon each other in this poem, a reflection of the shadowy light flickering from the pages of Scripture concerning their affinity.
