“Ban Comic Sans!”
Holly and David Combs, Graphic Designers
A movement to eradicate the popular and friendly font, Comic Sans, took the design world by storm in 1999. The news did not reach the Shalom Snail Garden until 2021.

“Wild and meek” corrects a distorted image of Christ as “mild and meek.” The lamb who called Herod a “fox” and blasted his opponents as “white-washed tombs full of dead men’s bones” is more than “meek and mild.”1Luke 13:32; Matthew 23:27. He’s a roaring lion.2See G.K. Chesterton’s commentary on the image of Christ as “meek and mild” in The Everlasting Man, Part 2, Chapter 2, “The Riddles of the Gospel.”

Matthew 12:14-21 in a couplet
With a touch of humor, Comic Sans might be dubbed the “Font of the Beatitudes” because it is truly poor and persecuted.3Matthew 5:3, 10.
The Eight Beatitudes
Comic Sans is playful, spontaneous, approachable, gentle, and sincere like the creatures of the garden. The British Dyslexia Association recommends Comic Sans as one of the best fonts for people with this unique gift.
Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and bind up the wounded. His actions and words reached all levels of society, from kings and potentates to the poorest and most disabled. Comic Sans suits the little ones of the kingdom of heaven4Mark 10:14; Matthew 18:3; 19:14; Luke 18:16. and “the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.”5Luke 14:13, 21.

Someone dear to me saw the face of Jesus in the rear crocus of this photo one evening as I was reading about the “grave issue of Comic Sans,” which a writer wittingly described as “up there with today’s most controversial topics, from climate change to data privacy.”6Dana Meir, “Why People Hate Comic Sans (And Shouldn’t),” Wix, March 18, 2020, https://www.wix.com/blog/creative/2020/03/why-do-people-hate-comic-sans/.
