A reflection on John 6:60-69

Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”
John 6:60-69
As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”
Sacrament of Love
Spiritual truths cannot be perceived by the “flesh” (sarx) alone but must be “granted… by my Father” (John 6:65). Jesus, who is inseparable from the Godhead, fulfills his mission together with the Father and the Holy Spirit. As the Father revealed Jesus’ identity to Peter (Matthew 16:17), the Father draws his children to his Son.
Whenever we receive the Holy Eucharist—the sacrament of love and communion—we receive the Son, who is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The whole and undivided Trinity—Three and One—deifies the many and makes us one. May the Church grow more and more into the image of the Blessed Trinity, her origin and end.

O Blessed Trinity, this Sacrament was instituted by Your infinite goodness that we might be united to You and You to us; that we might receive You into ourselves and be received by You; that at the same time we might hold You within ourselves and be held by You.
St. Angela of Foligno
The bread of the Trinity makes us one;
The Father by the Spirit sends his Son.

三位一體的麵包使我們合而為一;
父藉聖靈差遣祂的兒子。
