As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, “How do the scribes claim that the Messiah is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said:
‘The Lord said to my lord,
“Sit at my right hand
until I place your enemies under your feet.”’David himself calls him ‘lord’; so how is he his son?” The great crowd heard this with delight.
Mark 12:35-37
Foretelling the King of Kings
Prophets utter things beyond their comprehension. Thus David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, testifies that “The Lord said to my lord”—his son and Messiah—“Sit at my right hand.” By addressing his heir as “my lord,” King David reveres him as his superior. Jesus, the son of David, is truly the “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16).
The Lord says to my lord:
Psalm 110:1
“Sit at my right hand,
while I make your enemies your footstool.”
By the Spirit of the Lord,
David called his son “Lord.”
