A reflection on John 12:24
Easter Sunday
©️2024 Gloria M. Chang
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
John 12:24 (ESV)
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Jesus, the Bread of Life broken for us, springs from the ground as a flowering seed on Easter morning. Finding life and light at the empty tomb, the first witnesses, all women, hear angels proclaim the good news: “He is risen!” (Mark 16:6; Matthew 28:6; Luke 24:6) Mary Magdalene encounters Jesus, “the gardener” himself, and announces to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:18)
The first bearers of the Gospel bloom like flowers from the broken seed of Christ.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Easter Hymn, “O Sons and Daughters”
That Easter morn, at break of day,
The faithful women went their way
To seek the tomb where Jesus lay.
Alleluia!
Rejoice! The grain that fell
Has sprouted from its shell.
Traditional Chinese Translation
《復活節生芽》
歡欣鼓舞!掉落的穀物
從它的外殼上發芽了。
