A reflection on Mark 6:30-32
Sunday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time (Year B)

The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
Mark 6:30-32
Sleep in Shalom
Jesus wants to lead us to green pastures and running streams, not burnout and fatigue. If we are serving God and his people, but wearing thin from lack of refreshment, it’s time to follow Christ into retreat.
Discipleship is both divine and human: We must eat the bread of life and the bread of the earth, rest in prayer and rest in slumber, for the Son of God has united all things in himself. Amen!
Follow Christ into retreat;
Even the Lamb must sleep.
Traditional Chinese Translation
《即使是羔羊也必須安息》
跟隨基督退隱;
即使羔羊也必須安睡。

Come away for respite!
I heard God’s personal invitation.
Time for holy pause.
I responded without hesitation.
God knows how great my need.
I’m soaking in living streams.
Walking barefoot on soft grass,
On my face gentle sun beams.
My Shepherd leads the way
To sup at the table of agape.
Thank you, Ellen!
