King David’s Entrustment
In prayer, we have a direct beeline to God. Better than wireless, the Holy Spirit carries our message to the Father before we speak: “Even before a word is on my tongue, Lord, you know it all” (Psalm 139:4).
Entrusting himself wholly to the Lord, King David was heard and loved:
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
Psalm 51:10-11 (RSV; 12-13 in NABRE)
and put a new and right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence,
and take not thy holy Spirit from me.
Create a pure heart for me, O God.
Renew a steadfast spirit within me.
My beeline prayer for this Lent:
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
To where and whom will I be sent,
with your eyes, Lord, help me to see.
Heart to heart, through the beeline,
We abide in Jesus’ vine.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 (RSV)
