Nothing Can Separate Us from the Love of God

Romans 8:35, 37-39

Brothers and sisters:
What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

God, who is unbounded Love, permeates all of creation, from powers and principalities in the spiritual realm to the tiniest quark in the physical cosmos. Nothing, writes St. Paul, can separate us from the love of Christ, who bore in his own Body the totality of exterior and interior trials unto death, conquering the final “enemy” on the Cross (1 Corinthians 15:26). Traversing spacetime in his divinized humanity, Christ’s Incarnation transfigures and redeems history, geography, and cosmology from end to end. All things originate in Christ from before the foundation of the world and return to him as their source and summit (Ephesians 1:4).

Perfect Love, who is God, “casts out fear” (1 John 4:18).
