Isaiah 35:1

The wilderness and the parched land will exult;
Isaiah 35:1
the Arabah will rejoice and bloom.
Silent Waiting
East of Eden, the whole earth is parched and barren, thirsting for the vivifying stream of the Spirit of God. As we continue our Advent journey, let us offer the arid places in our world and in our lives to the Lord for irrigation. Silent waiting in the wintry days and nights increases our desire to meet the Lord when he comes again. So let us drink in the silence, for the Lord speaks in the silent depths of our hearts, releasing the fount of the Spirit.
For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.
Psalm 62:5(6), RSV
Arid places needing irrigation,
I have several of these places.
In the corners of my mind,
Lord, send your refreshing graces.
I search for ways to spread hope.
Send me a bucket with long rope,
To draw deep from everlasting source.
You told the woman at the well,
“You will not thirst any longer.”
Help me to feel much stronger,
Like her that I will go and tell.
May the Lord’s grace become in you “a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14).
