Isaiah 45:8a

Let justice descend, you heavens, like dew from above,
Isaiah 45:8a
like gentle rain let the clouds drop it down.
Rorate Caeli
One of the most beautiful Advent hymns of the Catholic Church, “Rorate caeli” (Drop down, ye heavens), comes from Isaiah 45:8 in the Latin Vulgate:
Latin:
Rorate caeli desuper et nubes pluant justum aperiatur terra et germinet salvatorem et justitia oriatur simul ego Dominus creavi eum.
English:
Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened, and bud forth a savior: and let justice spring up together: I the Lord have created him.
Both the words and musical composition fittingly express the deep yearning of the patriarchs and prophets for the coming of the Messiah.
Dear GMC, you made my day with this reflection. Thank you for being such a treasure and resource to us during our Advent journey.
Thank you, fdan! The treasures of Sacred Tradition are enduring for the journey.
