A reflection on John 10:27-30
Fourth Sunday of Easter (Year C)
©️2025 Gloria M. Chang
Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”
John 10:27-30
Christ’s Hand and the Father’s Are One
The Good Shepherd is a surety,
A guarantor of eternity.
Christ’s sheep safe in the Father’s hand
Shall inherit the Promised Land.
Father and Son are inseparable—
An exchange of love ineffable.
Those who formerly became priests took their office without an oath, but this one was addressed with an oath,
Hebrews 7:21-22 (RSV)
“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
‘Thou art a priest for ever.’”
This makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant.
The Good Shepherd is a surety,
A guarantor of eternity.
Traditional Chinese Translation
《好牧人是個保證》
好牧人是個保證,
一個永恆的保證人。

The voice of Christ invites,
Consoles, corrects, cheers.
Even heard in darkest nites,
Breaks into deepest fears.
Asks me for a trusting heart,
Patiently waits for my reply,
“You alone have eternal life,
No One else for me would die.”
May the Good Shepherd pour blessings upon you, Ellen!
