A reflection on Matthew 13:44-46
Wednesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time
©️2025 Gloria M. Chang
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”
Matthew 13:44-46
Fishermen abandoned boats and gold
To net God’s kingdom and a hundredfold.
The riches of this world cannot compare
To deification through Christ the Heir.
Seek God as for a treasure in a field,
A priceless pearl of infinite yield.

Abandoning dreams of glittering gold,
Casting their lots with the Galilean.
Believers want to net a hundred fold.
Money can’t buy everything!
Seeking God’s kingdom,
As promised by Christ the King.
Lead me, Lord, take my hand,
Let me reach the Promised Land.
Help me find that priceless pearl.
With your ever flowing grace ,
Move me into your sacred space.
Our choir sang on Sunday:
Seek ye first the kingdom of God
And His righteousness;
And all these things shall be added unto you.
Allelu, Alleluia!
May this be our song!
