The Root of Jesse, Day 8

“The Root of Jesse, Day 8”
Isaiah 11:8
©️2020 by Gloria M. Chang

The baby shall play by the viper’s den,
and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair.

Isaiah 11:8

The cunning of the serpent, the primordial tempter, will be rendered innocuous by the infant Messiah born of a young woman (Isaiah 7:14). The trial of the tree of knowledge of good and evil that toppled the first couple will be overcome by the Son of Man.

Curds and honey he will eat so that he may learn to reject evil and choose good.

Isaiah 7:15

Nourished on the “curds and honey” of divine wisdom, Emmanuel will choose obedience to  God the Father and obtain the fruit of the tree of life on behalf of all humankind, quelling the siren song of the serpent.

  1. Dear GMC, Thank you for the beautiful reflection that brings us God’s comfort and goodness as we wait to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus. May we too know the sweetness of obedience to the Father!
