Zero to Infinity

“The Invincible Cross”
A reflection on 1 Corinthians 1:22-25
Third Sunday of Lent (Year B)

Brothers and sisters:
Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
but we proclaim Christ crucified,
a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom,
and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

1 Corinthians 1:22-25

The Invincible Cross

Fra Angelico, Detail of the Crucifixion (ca.1437-46)

Nothing speaks to the human heart deeper than sacrificial love. Jesus not only healed the sick and raised the dead, debated the law and quoted the sages. He laid aside his power in weakness, abandoning himself into the hands of his heavenly Father. In the zero of the cross, infinite life and love are found.

Signs and wonders, wisdom and books,
Pale before the Savior’s crux.

Traditional Chinese Translation

 《零到無窮大》
神蹟奇事、智慧與書籍,
在救主的十字架面前顯得蒼白。
