There is No Rose of Such Virtue

“There is No Rose of Such Virtue”
Traditional English Christmas Carol, c.1420
Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God
©️2022 by Gloria M. Chang

There is no rose of such virtue
As is the rose that bare Jesu;
Alleluia.

For in this rose contained was
Heaven and earth in little space;
Res miranda.

By that rose we may well see
That he is God in persons three,
Pari forma.

The angels sungen the shepherds to:
Gloria in excelsis deo:
Gaudeamus.

Leave we all this worldly mirth,
And follow we this joyful birth;
Transeamus.

Alleluia, res miranda,
Pares forma, gaudeamus,
Transeamus.

Lady of the Angels, Georgios Nomikos (1680)

  1. Dear GMC, thank you for the chanticle. Just what I needed the day after New Year’s Eve celebration. May our Blessed Virgin Mary continue to bring us new life as children of God. And may your New Year be joyful and beautiful!

  2. Happy and blessed New Year, Gloria! May the Theotokos smile upon you and lead you to her Son always in a never ending cycle of Love! Fabienne
